Sloppy Joes
You have been offered a lot of quality cooking recipes on this page, and you are now about to get one that is “sloppy.” Youngsters around the country enjoy Sloppy Joes. It is easy to make and not time consuming. It is the prefect dish when you have a dozen hungry kids at your home for some sort of party.
2 pounds ground beef
1 large onion, minced
2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup flour
3 cups water
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1-1/2 cups catsup
1 to 2 teaspoons chili powder
12 hamburger buns
Cook beef, onion, salt, and pepper in large skillet, stirring until beef loses its red color. Stir in flour, water, Worcestershire, catsup, and chili powder. Simmer, uncovered, 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Split and toast buns. Spoon mixture over toasted buns.
Sloppy José's
Prepare Sloppy Joe mixture but increase chili powder to 3 to 4 teaspoons. Just before serving stir in a can of un-drained kidney or pinto beans. Serve over tortillas, which have been crisped in oil, or toasted bun halves.
Sloppy Vegan Joes
(Deborah's vegetarian version of Sloppy Joes)
Well, I make the same, except that in place of ground beef I use either TVP (texturized vegetable protein), which has been soaked 15 minutes in boiling water & drained OR tofu, which has been frozen (to change the texture) and thawed, then drained.
